Meet the Clerk

Greg G. Allen
Forsyth County Clerk of Superior and State Courts

Clerks of Superior Court have been elected county constitutional officers since 1798, when the framers of Georgia's constitution created the office and provided for election of a clerk in each county of the state.

The Clerk is accountable only to the people who elect him. He is not an employee or appointee of any county or state commission or any agent or agency of the judiciary. As an impartial county officer, the Clerk provides some of the most important checks-and- balances needed in both local county government and the state's judicial system.

The Clerk receives, manages, and processes all court documents, collects and disburses all court fees, fines, and costs, and provides the public with access to court records. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, protecting and permanently maintaining citizens' property deeds and liens, managing county trial and grand juries, including summoning jurors for service; providing oversight and administrative support to the county board of tax equalization; appointing notaries public, registering trade names, and is the elected official responsible for issuing subpoenas for court appearances.

Greg G. Allen has served as Forsyth County's Clerk of Superior and State Court since January 1, 2009, following his election in 2008. Mr. Allen is a graduate of Forsyth County High School and an alumnus of Georgia State University. He has been married to his wife Kim for 25 years, and is the proud parent of three children: Chase (a West Forsyth High alumnus and graduate of the University of Mississippi), Knox (a Forsyth Central High graduate and current upperclassman at Ole Miss), and daughter Ansley, an 8th grader in the local school system. Greg and his family are longtime members of Cumming 1st United Methodist Church.

Greg currently serves as the Legislative Chairman of the Clerks of Superior Court of Georgia, is the Vice President of the Georgia Superior Court Clerks Association, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Superior Court Clerks Cooperative Authority. Due to his modernization and updating of the Forsyth County Clerk of Courts office, he was appointed by the State Bar of Georgia to the Next Generation Courts Commission in 2011 to help determine the future of court operations in the state. Mr. Allen has been honored by his fellow Clerks with the 9th District Clerk of the Year Award in 2012, and received the prestigious ECLAT' Award in 2015. Greg is active in the local and state Republican Party, serving as a delegate to the 2013 and 2015 Republican State Conventions, and has been a member and supporter of the National Rifle Association for many years.
